In Episode 7 of Crying in Cars, I speaks with Gail, a mum of two living in Singapore, about the moments that crack us open, even when there isn’t a literal “car cry” available. Gail shares that in a dense city where privacy is scarce (and even car parks have CCTV), her tears have usually happened behind closed doors: in her bedroom, the bathroom, or the quiet corners of home.
Gail’s healing journey began after postpartum depression with her first baby, and over the years it has expanded into a deeper reckoning with the ways she learned to survive: adapting, tolerating too much, and pushing through at the cost of herself. She speaks openly about money trauma and the way it can live in the nervous system, where the “numbers” might say one thing, but the body is still bracing for danger. That lens becomes central as she reflects on a business partnership that looked promising on paper but became toxic in practice, and the hard decision she made to end it rather than abandon herself again.
The conversation also explores what changes when a woman starts choosing boundaries, not just at work, but at home. Gail shares the real-time work of shifting long-held family dynamics, including naming that she can no longer play the “sole adult” role or carry emotional labour that isn’t hers.
This is a grounded, honest episode about healing in layers: postpartum recovery, identity reinvention, and the slow return to self-trust, using the tools that help (therapy, coaching, nervous-system awareness, and other supportive practices), and learning to build a life that actually feels safe to live.

I just want to say one last thanks to Gail for being open to this conversation and sharing her story.
